Everyone tells you to build a village. Almost no one tells you what belongs in it, or how you’re supposed to find one when your family is three time zones away and it’s 3 a.m.

So we stopped treating the village like a nice idea and built one you can name. Here’s what’s inside yours.

Every real village comes from somewhere. Ours starts in Korea.

Korean inspired

Care that begins
with the mother.

We’re rooted in sanhujori, the Korean practice of the fourth trimester. A protected window where the mother is fed, kept warm, and given room to heal while everything else gets carried for her.

It rests on three things we don’t negotiate. Warmth. Rest. Nutrition. Most care turns straight to the baby. We keep turning back to you, because a recovered mother is the best thing that can happen to a newborn.

But warmth was never a Korean idea. It’s a human one, and every culture keeps its own.

Globally influenced

The care is Korean-inspired. The hands come from everywhere.

Our doulas come from all over, and each carries a postpartum tradition of her own. Korean in spirit, global in practice, matched to you.

One is a trained herbalist, blending custom teas from local plants for blood-building, sleep, and swelling.

One practices La Cuarentena, the Latin American tradition of warming food, deep rest, and a closing-of-the-bones ceremony.

One brings West Indian and Caribbean postpartum practices passed down in her family.

Others train in Ayurveda, Kundalini, and Reiki, for the mothers who want that kind of care.

And across the team: yoga, aromatherapy, meditation, lactation education, massage, belly binding, nutrition, and cooking.

We match you on location, availability, and the specialties that fit your needs, so we can’t promise every skill in one doula. This is the range we draw from, and the intention behind who we bring in.

Belly binding

The faja, sourced from a small maker in Mexico, wrapped to draw the body back together the way it’s been done for generations.

B-roll · nourishing dishes across cultures

Food as medicine

Restorative meals from Korean, Latin American, Ayurvedic, and Caribbean tables. Nutrition with a lineage.

B-roll · custom tinctures blended and poured

Custom tinctures

Blended for your recovery with a trusted maker. Evidence-informed and grounded.

A tradition is only as good as the hands that carry it. So here’s who we let into your home.

The baseline

Every Sanhu doula starts here.

Before a doula ever steps into your home, she meets every one of these. Real certifications, not invented ones. Fully insured, background-checked, and paid a living wage. We don’t cut corners, and that is part of why our care is what it is.

01

Certified & experienced. PP certification or a year-plus practicing.

02

300+ hands-on hours. Newborns 0 to 3 months, three-plus families.

03

Three references. Verifiable, from real postpartum families.

04

Vaccinated. Current on Tdap, flu and Covid favored.

05

$1M liability insurance. Per incident, every doula.

06

Background checked. Passed and verified before onboarding.

07

Reliable transportation. On time, every shift.

08

Real availability. Two to three shifts a week, minimum.

In-house training

Then we train them ourselves.

Meeting the baseline gets a doula in the door. What makes one ours is what happens next: whatever tradition she comes from, every doula trains in the Sanhu method with us. Our in-house Sanhujori program, built on the three things we never negotiate.

WarmthKeeping the body warm and held through the fourth trimester, the way sanhujori intends.
RestMother-centric rest and healing, so recovery is real, not just survival.
NutritionRestorative, tradition-rooted food that rebuilds the body from the inside.
