Jujube, Cinnamon, and Rose Tea: The Postpartum Tonic You Should Be Sipping

What Is Jujube Tea?

Jujube, cinnamon, and rose is a traditional tea blend rooted in both Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Korean wellness. It has been used for generations as a warming tonic — brewed slowly, sipped daily, and valued for its ability to nourish the skin, settle the nervous system, and restore circulation from the inside out.

In TCM, this blend is often called a "beauty tea" — not for cosmetic reasons, but because the kind of glow it is associated with comes from a body that is genuinely recovering: better sleep, calmer stress response, improved blood flow, and nutrients that support the skin at a cellular level. It is particularly popular during autumn and widely recommended for postpartum recovery, when the body needs gentle, consistent replenishment.

At Sanhu House, warm teas are part of how we care for new mothers. This one sits alongside Mi-Yuk-Gook as a daily ritual we bring into the home — something small and deliberate that adds up over weeks of recovery.

Key Benefits

• Skin and collagen support. Jujubes (red dates) are rich in vitamin C and are used in TCM to support natural collagen production for clearer, brighter skin.

• Relaxation and sleep. This blend acts as a natural calmative, helping to reduce stress and improve sleep quality — two things every postpartum mother needs more of.

• Warmth and circulation. Cinnamon and optional ginger boost metabolism, improve circulation, and warm the body from within — core principles of both TCM and Korean sanhujori postpartum care.

• Anti-aging and fatigue support. The combination of antioxidants and nutrients helps fight the kind of deep fatigue that sets in during the fourth trimester and promotes what practitioners describe as a "natural glow."

Why Warmth Matters in Postpartum Recovery

In Korean postpartum tradition, cold foods and drinks are avoided because they are believed to disrupt digestion and slow circulation at a time when the body needs to be healing. Warm, nourishing liquids are prioritized instead — not as a restriction, but as a form of care.

This tea fits that philosophy exactly. It is warming without being heavy, restorative without requiring anything of you. A cup in the morning or before bed is a small act that signals to your body: you are being looked after.

The Sanhu House Jujube, Cinnamon, and Rose Tea Recipe

Serves 1–2 · Prep time: 2 min · Simmer time: 20–30 min

Ingredients

• 3–5 dried jujubes (red dates), pitted or sliced

• 1 cinnamon stick

• 3–4 dried rose buds

• 2–3 cups water

Optional add-ons: 1–2 slices of fresh ginger, a small handful of goji berries, honey to sweeten

Instructions

1. Rinse the jujubes and rose buds under cold water.

2. Add all ingredients to a small pot with 2–3 cups of water.

3. Bring to a gentle simmer and cook for 20–30 minutes, until the jujubes are soft and the water has deepened in color.

4. Strain the tea into a cup and serve warm.

Doula Tip

You can make a larger batch and keep it in a thermos through the day — the flavor deepens as it sits. If you are in the early weeks postpartum and finding it hard to stay warm, add a slice or two of fresh ginger to the simmer. It makes the tea noticeably more grounding and is especially good on nights when sleep feels far away.
